John Raven has kindly offered to lead this next walk for us. The walk will be around Loughrigg in the Lake District. John will provide further details for us nearer the time, in the meantime, please let us know if you would like to go. The walk will be on Sunday 26th February.
Further details of the walk, from John:- "I normally do Loughrigg fell in around 4 hours. There are lots of options. Boots are essential and it is up hill steep in parts. We can park in the same car park as last time for the Grasmere walk or turn left at Ambleside to Coniston and then right and park opposite church on road but is not always spaces. Probably around five miles. Its got great views all round. Good practice walk for getting back into walking. Bring sandwiches for lunch. Aim to be there in car park for 10am finish approx 2pm".
I like to join for this but I won't get there since I don't have a car . Can I get a lift from someone?
Can anyone give Sarah a lift, by the way? She lives in Blackpool, but doesn't mind driving to Preston.
Hello - New to this website / Group & sorry don't know my way round it very well so apologies if this post is in wrong place etc... I do a lot of walking on my own but would like to meet others suitably keen / able to climb mountains etc... and share cost of transport to Lakes . I am training for Mountain Leader exam / Navigation Wondering if anyone interested? I know the Loughrigg Walk and may join you. Is anyone interested in climbing / ropes etc.. ? Thanks Linda
Hi Linda, you're welcome to join us for the Loughrigg walk. Most of our walks so far have been just a few hours long, and about 5 or 6 miles. However, I'm sure we could cope with a few more adventurous walks! Perhaps you could lead a walk for us in future? Rock climbing is not something we've done before as a group, although it is something I have considered organising. Where do you go climbing? Indoors, or in quarries?
Re: Climbing - only done a bit in indoor wall at Ambleside but would like to maybe do walks which combine some climbing . Realise I need to basically find others better than me to learn from. In the meantime thanks for all the info and may join you for Loughrigg walk and yes would love to lead a more challenging walk for anyone interested . Maybe I could get a feel for the group if I join the Loughrigg walk then could maybe discuss a poss date after that . Thank you very much
Sorry but please could someone please confirm where and when you are meeting for the Loughrigg Walk Sunday 26th Feb - Many thanks
OK. We will meet at Whitemoss Car Park near Ambleside, at 10am. This is the same place as we met last time, for the walk around Grasmere. Whitemoss walks car park is on both sides of the A591. As you drive from Ambleside it is just past the Badger Bar and the Glen Rothay Hotel. The nearest post code is LA22 9SE. Landranger grid ref 346,065. Parking costs £5 for 4 hours or £7 for 12 hours, and the car park machines take coins, cards and phone payment. It makes sense to share lifts, so if you don't already have a lift arranged, please post a comment below or get in touch and we'll sort something out. See you on Sunday ....
To those attending the walk, here's a link to an OS map showing both car parks at White Moss Common :- http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?...Common, Cumbria &searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf Does anyone en-route still need a lift / want to split car park fees ? I live in Bamber Bridge. Incidentally, my dog Jess will be in the car with me (Border Collie). Thanks, Colin
Colin, I'm interested in going on Sunday and would rather car share if you still have room. I live near the University, is there anywhere convenient I can meet you? Gregory
Hi Gregory, Send me a personal message on here detailing where you are located. I'm sure we can work something out. A contact number would also be useful. It's going to be a fairly early start. Will need to leave Preston at around 8:30am. Regards, Colin
OK, we have about 13 or 14 people booked for the walk tomorrow:- John & Maria (daughter) & Simon , Brian, Sarah, Michiel, Colin, Kathryn (+1?), Elaine, David J, Gregory, Dave T, Me See you tomorrow, 10am at Whitemoss Car Park, near Ambleside. The weather forecast is fairly good, but bring waterproofs just in case (also don't forget to bring sandwiches)!
